For our son’s second birthday, we decided to do something a little different and not throw a big party that he wouldn’t even remember.  We decided to make it a joint vacation birthday with his daddy and we loaded the Durango to the roof and headed to Galveston to stay at a beach house, dog and all.

We had so much fun taking the kids down to the sand.  It was Jackson’s first time at the beach where he was old enough to go in the water and he couldn’t stop smiling and laughing.  Those are the memories that will last a life time.

I wanted to share with y’all some of my favorite items that we took.

  1. Snacks- After completing the Whole30 (read here), we struggle with wanting to eat healthy and wanting to eat what is laying around. Bringing our own healthy snacks like Epic bars,  Kale chips and dried fruits and nuts from Whole Foods.

2.Lily’s kindle (which are on sale)- it rained quite a bit during the trip so when we were getting ready or Jax was napping, this was a life saver. She has learning apps that she plays and is currently obsessed with this app where you dress and feed your baby doll.

  1. My new yoga pants.  I got these great new yoga pants from Camo Me Couture.    They are capris, which are great for me because I am so tall, and even though they aren’t supposed to get dried….let’s face it, it happens and I don’t have to worry about them turning into high waters.  They also come up nice and high over my post baby belly and keep things looking good for running around, the gym, or my many trips to Target.  Another thing I really like about these pants is that they don’t slide down on my booty when I bed over. No one at the gym (Target) needs to see the top of my super white behind! They have high heels on them and are made, manufactured and shipped from the USA. They also have free shipping over $50.

I fell in…..

4. Curly hair products- going to the beach is like a vacation for my hair because I just let the fro go! I love the Oidad heat and humidity gel , I also love the Diva Curl- Curl refresher, it’s what I put on later in the day if I just want to refresh my curls and don’t want to re-wash my hair.  I finish it all off with Morocan Oil hair spray which adds a little shine but the smell is my favorite part! I have been asked so many times what my perfume is and I smile when I say that It’s just my hair spray! When all else failed with my curly hair, I just threw on a hat!

  1. My popsocket– Y’all know how obsessed I am with my popsocket (read here)! I tell everyone about it because it makes texting, picture taking, anything phone related so much easier! They are also the best gifts!

  1. Our beach tent– this thing is the best for keeping your kids out of too much sun! It’s also great if you have a tiny one that might need a nap. It took a few times to get the hang of closing it, but now we love it. We actually open it in the living room sometimes for kids to have movie dates.
  2. – 500 We still needed the pack and play, diapers, kids clothes, bathing suits, cover ups, dog food, towels, clothes for us, hot sauce,  kids toys, back up clothes in case the threenager didn’t like the first outfits, shoes for everyone, pillows, blankets, baby dolls, kid snacks, tooth brushes, shampoo, soap, brushes, and probably 50 more items that I packed in!My husband told me of how he used to go the beach with nothing but his boardies and a cooler of beer.  Things have changed for him! I have always been “mom” and packed everything but the kitchen sink to go to the beach.

What are your favorite go to beach/vacation items?

I never thought about a tent! That’s such a great idea–a definite step above a beach umbrella. That actually would have allowed us to stay longer on certain days. Man, I wish we lived closer to the beach.

  • oooh love the curly hair tips! My hair and I aren’t on the best of terms, because I’ve only had it curly for a few years (since babies) so I still have no clue what to do with it. And I love those purple pants! Also fun fact- I also met my husband in an airport! 🙂

    • Sierra says:

The key to curly is all about good products for me, if I want it to look at all decent that is. Thanks, great pants. That’s amazing that you met hubby in airport! My sister me hers too! Apparently it’s a big thing!!

  • I always bring baby powder to help get sticky sand off of baby when we leave the beach. A tent is an awesome idea!!!

  • Those snacks are awesome!!! And I love the Yoga pants tips even tho I don’t do Yoga but this mom definitely needs some stretchy clothes to go beaching in hehe.

Aww great post with great ideas!
I love that Galveston isn’t too far away. I just wish it was a wee bit prettier. Haha
I love getting in some workouts on the beach. A perfect place to practice a mini tri 🙂

    • Sierra says:

Yes, totally agree. Coming from Fl beaches to these….. Oh well, it’s sand and sun! Mini tri? Wow girl you are devoted! I should take some workout notes from you!

  • Julie says:

Yay for an awesome Galveston beach vacation and birthday celebration 🙂 I recently ate at that Rainforest Cafe too 🙂 Dang girl look at you doing yoga on the beach, woot! That pic of you in the water in your yoga pants made me laugh though. No swimsuit?

    • Sierra says:

Thanks. It was super fun and yes, I live in workout pants haha. I was doing the yoga and playing around with handstands when I fell in the water and just decided to go with it. It started raining 1 minute later so we went running inside 🙂

Isn’t the beach perfect for that age? It keeps them so entertained! We always take a beach tent along too the kids can get out of the sun.

  • Susan says:

Tent is a great idea! Oh man, the beach is so much work …

  • Casey says:

I think trips are a great way to celebrate a birthday! Great list too!

  • She Joh says:

I love going to the beach, and I agree about a lot of the items you’ve listed! It looks like it was a fun day!

Looks like such a fun trip! We live near the shore in Massachusetts. When I just had one baby, I packed everything I could think of! But now that I’ve got 3 kids, we keep it waaaaay more minimal – shovels & buckets, towels and a big sheet for sitting, sunscreen, hats & snacks/water. It’s New England, so even in the summer it can get windy & cool – sweatshirts/long sleeves are a must but I leave them in the car – the less to carry the better!

  • Great tips-especially the tent- so clutch!! We have a half moon type tent for outdoor adventures and it would be perfect for a beach, too!

  • Stacy says:

I love the beach. My husband and I went together but we haven’t been there since we’ve had or boys. This is good advice for when we take them. Thanks for sharing!

  • Such a smart idea with the tent, I would’ve never thought about it. We haven’t been to the beach with the kids yet (we don’t live near a coast 🙁 ), but I will definitely be referring back to this post when we go.

  • Savannah says:

You make me feel guilty for not doing yoga!!! You look so awesome out there on the beach <3
I absolutely love the beach so much, we actually just spent a day there this weekend. Snacks were number one on my list too!!! Haha
It looks like you guys had such a wonderful trip-happy birthday to your son! <3

  • Samantha says:

Looks like you guys had a great time! I’ve been wanting a beach tent! Maybe they’ll start having them on clearance since summer is almost over. My beach must have is baby powder- makes getting the sand off so much easier!
